Three minutes and 14 seconds. I missed my goal by just 3 minutes and 14 freaking seconds. That’s 194 stupid seconds. If I had covered each mile just 1.5 seconds faster that would have done it. But now I’m sitting here in this finishers’ tent weeping…no, sobbing uncontrollably over 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Right now, this feels like failure. It’s not failure, it’s strength. I was strong enough to get here, strong enough to step up and put my toe on the start line, strong enough to race against the course, the clock, the rest of the field, and most of all, myself. Three minutes and 14 seconds doesn’t define me and it won’t stop me from lifting my head up high…to look for my next challenge.
