The Journey

I usually use this space to talk about what’s happening behind the scenes — product updates, stories from the garage, the daily grind of building something. But this week, that can wait.

Over the weekend, the local cycling community where I live and ride lost one of its own. Carlos Moreno, 51 years old, was hit and killed by a drunk driver while out on his bike.

Carlos was a regular on the rides around Alpharetta,  one of those riders everyone knew, even if you didn’t know him well. I can still picture him in the pack on those early weekend mornings, steady and calm, always with a nod or a smile when you rolled up beside him. He was also a customer, having bought a Cycle Alpharetta kit not long ago. But more than that, he was a single father raising four kids, most of them still young, still needing their dad.

And now, they’re facing the unimaginable.

Cycling is supposed to bring us peace. It’s where so many of us clear our heads, find our rhythm, feel alive. To lose someone that way — doing something we all love — hits deep. It’s unfair. It’s senseless. And it leaves a hole that doesn’t get filled.

There’s a GoFundMe set up to help support Carlos’s children as they navigate life without him. If you can give, please do. No amount is too small. It won’t bring him back, but it can help ease a little of what his kids are facing in the days ahead.

I can’t find it in me to post the usual Meal Time or What I’ve Heard sections this week. Those things can wait. Some stories need the space to breathe, and this is one of them. So I’m going to leave it here, short, heavy, and hopeful that Carlos’s kids will feel the support of a community that refuses to forget him, even if they never knew him.
