2020 4x4x48 Challenge Registration

The 2021 version of the 4x4x48 can be found here.

The world changed in what seemed like hours.  Suddenly the whole world is in isolation and social distance rules have eliminated jobs and altered our behaviors radically.  For many, the cancellation and postponement of races, marathons, Ironmans, 70.3, et al may seem trivial.  In the big picture those things probably are fairly trivial.  However, many endurance athletes not only define themselves through their sport, it often serves as a form of therapy.

Looking for a great personal challenge? Need to log some big miles to get to your annual mileage goal? Maybe you are thinking about doing an ultra-marathon? Perhaps you just want to prove you are one mentally tough son-of-a-gun? Well then, try on the 4x4x48!

  • What is the 4x4x48?

4 mile run, every 4 hours for 48 hours.

  • When is the 2020 4x4x48?

Participants must start and complete their 4x4x48 anytime between 12:01 AM April 9th, 2020 and 12:59 PM May 17th, 2020.

  • Where does the 4x4x48 take place?

Wherever you are.  The beauty of the 4x4x48 is that you do it where you are and you post your runs to Strava.

  • What does the 4x4x48 cost?

$50 plus shipping, with net proceeds going to Semper Fi & America’s Fund.

  • What do you get for completing the 4x4x48?

You get to tell your friends that you are likely crazier than they are...and all registrants who complete the challenge, following the rules below, will get a custom printed Reăl Men's or Women's Blue Ridge 4x4x48 Finishers T-shirt (retail value $40) and a $25 gift certificate for a future purchase at Reăl.  At the end of the event shirts will be custom printed and shipped.  Currently our factory is being used to make PPE for medical workers.  Once we are open for normal production we will have a delivery time for the shirts.

Rules of 4x4x48

Yes there are rules.

  1. Participants have between 12:01 AM April 9th, 2020 and 12:59 PM May 17th, 2020 to complete their 48 hour streak.
  2. All entries must be GPS uploaded to the All entries must be GPS uploaded to the Reăl 4x4x48 Challenge 2020 Strava Club page.
  3. No bicycles, skateboards, roller blades...just good old fashioned running.
  4. You can start your first "leg" at any time of day but you must start each subsequent "leg" within 4 hours of the time you started the previous leg. For example, if you start at Noon, the next run would be at 4PM, then 8PM, Midnight, 4AM, 8AM...
  5. There will be people who ask "can I run all 48 miles at one time?" and the answer is NO.  A big part of the challenge is the nature of having to spread the run out over 48 hours and go every 4 hours over and over again.

Don’t use

Do not sign up for this, a buddy and me, paid the 60 dollars and completed this challenge back in MAY 2021 and logged every mile on Strava and still no shirt! I’ve reached out now 3 times and no response

Kyle,

Thanks for taking the time to post a review, even if it isn't the best news for us to hear.

Just went through our database and we can't find any emails from you about the shirt from the event. We do see a comment from you on the Strava club page which we responded to at the time. The shirts for the events are waiting for the final approval for production and should be ready to ship in the next few weeks.

I know it has been a long delay and we will get you the shirt you so deservedly earned. However, these are not just some cheap t-shirts out of a factory in some place hard to pronounce. The goal is to provide you with a shirt that will be one of your favorite run shirts for years to come, made with Italian fabrics and sewn here in the US of A.

Thanks for your patience.

Still waiting for my shirts!

I received a confirmation for three shirts to be sent out and I still do not have them. Looks like they have not been shopped but a tracking label has been created

Well, I must say you are very generous with your rating. Honestly, I would give us a negative review if possible.

I am so sorry this has been such a debacle. I can give you all the details in the world but it won’t make up for the fact that you did this virtual run nearly a year ago and still don’t have your shirt.

Here is where we are. I boxed your shirts the other day and had it labeled and ready to go and put the tracking number into the system. Then I noticed one of the other shirts was sized way wrong. I then opened up your parcel and your shirt was actually wrong as well. This is the second time we have had these shirts made. We have used two different factories and both times they have gotten them wrong. So here is what I would like to do. We offer a really nice running singlet using top of the line Italian fabric. The pattern is proven and I can probably get it produced and delivered to you sometime next week. If you are ok with that as a substitution let me know and we will get it out to you right away.

Your patience is so greatly appreciated it. This whole thing with these t-shirts has nearly had me in tears from the frustration so I can truly understand your frustration as well.

Awaiting fulfillment for almost half a year

Follow up to my below review. This is my current order status:
Order #1305 is awaiting fulfillment.

I feel like I have been forgotten about and my $60 has been stolen.

Kimberly,

Your frustration is understood and truly we feel it as well. The pandemic caused us to have to find a new factory. In September we were able to begin the process of moving to a new factory. It would seem simple to just ship the raw fabrics and samples to the new facility and get some shirts made. Apparently it isn't that easy.

However, are are getting much closer to being able to finally ship these shirts. Last week we got a size run to approve ahead of production and we are waiting for one small change to be made and then we will be able to fulfill your order along with everyone else.

Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Never got my shirt

Last correspondence I have referencing my 4x4x48 shirt was 20 August. It said shirts were still being produced. It's December and I have yet to receive it.

Good Apparel

Other than the four months it took to receive the shirt (due to this pandemic) I am happy with the product! Feels great and look good!

Scott,

Thanks for taking the time to leave us such a nice review. We are sorry it took so long to get these shirts out and the fact the factory was only allowed to make PPE for some 3+ months was frustrating to us as well but all in the greater good.
