When you live and train for endurance sports in Summit County, Colorado, you quickly learn to keep two things on you at all times – Chapstick/lip balm and a beanie.
When the average elevation is approximately 9,000 feet, the air seems dry even in the midst of a rainstorm. Add in the cold weather and if you are not on top of your lip care game you could end up with a nickname like “fish-lips.”
As endurance athletes, we learned early "keep your head warm and your body will follow.” Having a beanie stashed on you when you are hammering out some miles up Boreas Pass Road in July doesn't seem necessary...until it starts snowing on you.
The Summit beanie uses a two sided fabric with a micro-fleece facing. The micro-fleece keeps you warm but also wicks away sweat to the outer level to keep you dry. A beanie doesn't do you a lot of good if it is soaking wet.
